I showcased at the Cambridge School of Art Master's in Children's Book Illustration Graduation Show at Candid Art's Trust, London September 2021! If you saw my work there it would be great to hear from you!
Hello, my name is Emily. I am an Illustrator and aspiring Children’s Book Illustrator from Cheshire. Growing up in a small village surrounded by countryside I value family and nature, which feeds strongly into my storytelling.
From a young age imagination and storytelling has been a huge part of my life. As a child I loved creative writing developing my own little worlds and characters.
During High School I became passionate about anything to do with art. I left my studies aspiring to become an artist and nothing else. I went on to study an Extended Diploma in Art and Design where I had the opportunity to explore all creative areas, from photography to illustration. I excelled in all areas however my passion was illustration, where in my second year I chose to specialise in this creative field finishing my studies with my first amateur picture book. Which at the time was 42 pages long and every page was fully illustrated!
Leaving college, I then went on to study a Bachelors in Illustration at the University of Gloucestershire. I chose this course for their specialism in narrative illustration and storytelling. During my studies I became passionate about all things print making and graduated with a First-Class Honours in Illustration.
Following my studies, I knew I had a passion for children’s illustration specifically and aspired to develop my knowledge in this area. This is where I applied to the Cambridge School of Art’s profound Masters in Children’s Book Illustration and I am so glad that I did! This course has taught me the ins and outs of children’s book illustration, developing and improving my practice to a point that I am extremely proud of. I have learnt the importance of character, setting, colour, narrative voice, tone, composition and so much more. My entire creative journey has led me up to this point, and I could not be any more excited for what comes next.
